Prayer
A prayer of St. Francis of Assisi:
"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.
"O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life." Amen.
special services
Special worship services are conducted throughout the year during holy seasons in the Christian calendar such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week and Easter. We also celebrate special services throughout the year such as Youth Sunday, Women’s Sunday, Pentecost, and All Saints.
Baptisms
Holy Baptism is a process by which we are incorporated into the Church, which is the body of Christ, and made one in Christ.
Weddings
A marriage is a contract between two people. By choosing to hold the ceremony in a public building and inviting guests you are recognizing both that your new life affects the lives of many other people and that you will need their support if you are to sustain your life together.
Profession of Faith
In the RCA, profession of faith happens when someone who has already been baptized, often at a young age, publicly professes their faith in Christ and joins the church. Upon public profession of faith, the individual becomes a confessing member of the church, rather than a baptized member, and is welcomed into full participatory privileges of the local congregation, such as voting and governance.
Funerals and Memorial Services
The Liturgy for the celebration of a life is an Easter liturgy. It finds its meaning in the Resurrection. Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we, too, shall be raised.
